Soak Your Nuts

Lol!

…Yes it sounds funny

…And yes, I did pick up my last boyfriend by sharing with him how important it is for him to soak his nuts.

…He said, “You piqued my interest.”

If you are like me, you may have a problem digesting nuts or feeling bloated after eating nuts. There is a reason why!

Listen to this…

There is a brand in the nut called a phyate, this protects the nut in nature from being eaten so that it can germinate. Phyates actually block your ability to absorb nutrients and vitamins that are in the nut because phyates inhibit digestion…bloating, gas, constipation, etc.

Our ancestors knew this. So what they did was soak the nuts. I know that this might sound weird…but we have lost this ancient tradition in our culture that our ancestors knew would affect our ability to break down the nut in our gut, and receive the beneficial nutrients and vitamins.

So I wanted to share with you from one of the best Nutritional Books ever…Nourishing Traditions by Sally Fallon.

I made these yummy Crispy Pecans the other day…and had to share them with you. Plus, I didn’t get bloated. I shared these with a few friends and they were blown away by the incredible buttery flavor of the pecan, and the difference in taste.

…of course they tasted better. Our ancestors were geniuses!!!

Crispy Pecans

4 cups crispy halves
2 teaspoons sea salt
filtered water

“The buttery flavor of pecans is enhanced by soaking and slow oven drying. Mix pecans with salt and filtered water and leave in a warm place for at least 7 hours or overnight. Drain in a colander. Spread pecans on a stainless steel baking pan and place in a warm oven (no more than 150 degrees) for 12 to 24 hours, turning occasionally, until completely dry and crisp. Store in an airtight container. Great for school lunches.”

Enjoy! I would love to hear from you, and how you enjoyed the recipe!

With Love,
Danyelle
